One of the best bits of advice I've ever received is to always treat everyone with kindness and fairness. You never know who somebody might be, or when you might encounter them again - and trust me, they'll remember if you were a d**k to them. In this case, communications giant AT&T thought they could jerk someone around over a minor fee only to have it cost them much more in the end.
